BOOK ARTS
Book Arts
Students taking book arts courses at SRISA will have access to a large, well-lit studio. The studio is equipped with a full supply of cutting boards, rulers, T-squares, and triangles, student storage areas, and numerous large tables to spread out on. Over the years SRISA has collected an array of lead type ranging from font size 6 to 60 including regular, bold and italics type. There is also a fine collection of antique oversized wooden type all of which can be printed using the school's letterpress allowing students to learn the basics of page layout and design. Signature cradles, paper presses, and lead weights are available to assist students in each stage of the binding process. Students have access to a light table and printing presses to enhance their book works with their creative inspiration. With the endless supply of fine arts, decorative and traditional Florentine marbled paper, Florence is the perfect setting for students to allow their book creations to flourish.
