Prerequisite: Fashion Design I or equivalent course.

Course Description:
In this intermediate level fashion course importance will be given to creativity and development of a personal style as well as the improvement of technical skills, such as technical drawings and spec-sheets.  Students will learn how to use different coloring and rendering techniques using markers, color pencils and water colors offering a particularly artistic look in fashion illustration. The class will be involve study of different categories of the fashion market such as menswear, accessories, active sportswear, high fashion-haute couture, jeans wear, and how to create related sketches. The following will be taken in consideration when evaluating class projects and exams: drawing skills, personal creativity, trend awareness, aesthetic of presentation, effort, improvement, and attendance.

This course is designed for students who already have a basic knowledge of fashion design and an overview of the world of fashion. Throughout the course of the semester particular attention will be given to further improvement of the student’s drawing skills and ability to express design ideas based on personal research. Lessons are structured to give students individual attention.  They will be involved in class critiques and discussions as well as oral presentations of their collections. Special attention will be given to the understanding of the fashion market, different categories of product, and different aspects of the fashion designer’s job. A thorough foundation in fashion illustration is established in this course, which covers fashion figure and garment interpretation. Individual interpretation and creative drawing skills are emphasized.

Each student must provide the following materials for personal use:

The exact cost of the supplies depends on the amount of colors and quality of the supplies; the minimum cost is approx. 50 euro.

  • Sketch/Marker pad A4 size
  • Sketchbook
  • At least 2 pencils (H, HB, 2B, 4B)
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Eraser
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • A set of colour pencils( min.12)
  • At least 5 coloured markers
  • 2 black thin markers (0,2 and 0,5)
  • Coloured paper and garment decorations for the creative projects.

Meet the Faculty: Prof. Enrica Guidato

Enrica Guidato comes from Lecce, Italy. After receiving her scientific Diploma, she moved to Florence and then New York where she received her Associate Degree for Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology S.U.N.Y. She also received a Diploma for Apparel Design at Ent-Art Polimoda Institute in Florence, Italy.
