Course number: TBA
Department: Printmaking and Book Arts
Prerequisite: No prerequisites are required for this course, however, attention to detail and good craftsmanship is a plus

The course will focus on the techniques of the monotype and the monoprint. Often related to the looser traditions of painting, monotype allows for a broad range of experimentation and an intuitive building of imagery. Students will be introduced to various monotype approaches including: subtractive and additive techniques, multiple plate monotypes, monoprinting using a matrix, trace monotypes and four color printing. Demonstrations on ghost printing, veiling, viscosity, transfer techniques, chine colle and collage will also be presented. The class will work with both oil-based and water-based inks in order to understand the particular qualities of each.
