Summer Courses

Discovering Florence Through Photography

Instructor: TBA
Credit hours: 3--Contact hours: 90

Dept: Photography

Course Description: This class is designed to offer beginning to advanced students a chance to explore Florence and surrounding communities using photography to develop a personal record of their travels this Summer. Some students may choose to concentrate primarily on black and white film-based imagery, others might prefer to work only digitally and others might be interested to explore some historical photographic processes (such as cyanotypes or gum bichromate prints).

Independent of a student’s level or particular interests in photography, the aim is to help all students continue to develop their technical skills in whichever direction most interests them (black and white, digital or non-silver processes) while helping each student develop a stronger personal vision in their photographic imagery.

Class time will be divided between a number of different activities. We’ll be out visiting Florence to shoot new photographs, there will be in-class technical demonstrations, work time in the darkroom or digital lab, presentations of professional photography as well as individual and group critiques of student work.

Prerequisites: None. This course is open to students of all levels.
