Alessandra Ragionieri was born in Florence in 1960. She earned her Diploma in Decoration at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, and a Specialization Diploma in Graphic Arts from “Il Bisonte” International School of Printmaking in Florence. In 1999 and 2000 she participated in an Installations course held at Sommerakademie in Salzburg, Austria.

In 1994 she began her teaching career in engraving at the Accademia di Belle Arti and then at Il Bisonte, where she still teaches. Since then, Ragionieri has continued to teach courses in printmaking, book arts, watercolor and fresco painting at a variety of schools in Florence, including Santa Reparata International School of Art, Sarah Lawrence College, Syracuse University, l’Università dell’ Età Libera, the Lorenzo de Medici Institute, the British Institute, and the ASA summer program in Florence.

Throughout these years Alessandra Ragionieri has been and continues to be actively engaged in mural painting decorations, frescoes, and mural painting restoration. Her personal work, which expresses a love for materials and textures, moves freely through different techniques and a variety of media. Each material is chosen for its precious innate qualities: engravings, inks, threads, embroidery, moulds, meshes and sculpture with the support becoming an integral part of the creation, be it paper or gauze veils.

Since 2004 she has begun to works on the idea of expansion, opening and extension, producing microsculptures done with threads, pins and charcoals. Since 1994 she has regularly exhibited her works in personal and group shows in Italy, Austria, Ukraine Republic, Russia and the U.S; and her works are included in the collection of the Prints and Drawings Collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
